Uniting Churches Through Scripture & Song
The Story
A Shared Song
What if the Church in our city could truly sing together?
As I introduced Wendell Kimbrough's Psalm settings at City Church, I began to wonder what might happen if churches across Corpus Christi shared a common repertoire of songs rooted in Scripture.
That vision became Psalms We Sing Together.
I invited pastors and worship leaders from around the city to learn the songs together, and nearly ten churches committed to teaching the same Psalms in their own congregations for six months. When we finally gathered at The Churchyard, believers from many traditions sang together with one voice—not because they had rehearsed together, but because they had spent months learning the same songs in their own churches.
What followed were additional Psalm Sings, a songwriting workshop with Wendell, and lasting friendships among pastors, worship leaders, and musicians across our city.
More than anything, this project reminded me that the Church is larger than any one congregation. For a season, churches across Corpus Christi worshiped together through the ancient songs of Scripture—a privilege I will always treasure.
